hkey_current_user\
hkey_current_user\software\
hkey_current_user\software\policies\
hkey_current_user\software\policies\microsoft\
hkey_current_user\software\policies\microsoft\communicator\
hkey_current_user\software\policies\microsoft\communicator\disableservercheck

While the new Lync Client brings a lot of new functionalities and a complete new look, it isn’t compatible with a OCS 2007 R2 environment. Another downside is that it can’t be installed together with Communicator 2007 on a single machine. When working on both 2007 R2 and Lync 2010 projects, this means the usage of VM’s or uninstall and re-installing a lot, two options which I don’t like personally.

Out-of-the-box the client will give you an error message when you try to sign in into an OCS 2007 R2 pool, stating that the version is not correct. This tells me there IS some kind of communication, however, it’s being detected and blocked.

After some research I found a way to be able to run the Lync 2010 client on a OCS 2007 R2 environment – simply by bypassing a version check. To bypass this check, you have to create a new registry entry:
Key: HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Policies\Microsoft\Communicator
Name: DisableServerCheck
Type: DWORD
Value: 1 (00000001)

When this entry has been created, the version check will be skipped, and the Lync Client WILL logon to the OCS 2007 R2 environment. Actually, most of the functionalities just work fine! IM, Presence, calling and video work all as espected.

Of course there are some functionalities which don’t work correctly. One of these functionalities is the “Live Meeting” functionality; this is now built-in into the Lync Client, while in the previous version it was a separate client. Installing Lync will uninstall the LiveMeeting plug-ins in outlook as well, disabling you to schedule an old-fashion meeting. But hey, at least now we can connect to both environments with this new client!

The Silverlight 5 beta adds a number of new features and capabilities, which include, graphic improvements and performance improvements such as network latency reduction and 64-bit support.

The official site also shows off some of the main new features aimed at helping developers reach new heights in delivering rich Internet based applications. They include:

Hardware Decode and presentation of H.264 improve performance for lower-power devices to render high-definition video using GPU support.

TrickPlay allows video to be played at different speeds and supports fast-forward and rewind. At up to twice the speed, audio pitch correction allows users to watch videos while preserving a normal audio pitch.

Improved power awareness prevents the screen saver from being shown while watching video and allows the computer to sleep when video is not active.

Remote-control support allows users to control media playback.

Digital rights management advancements allow seamless switching between DRM media sources.

While the official beta site mentions additional features such as:

XAML Debugging with breakpoints for binding debugging

Implicit data templates for easy UI reuse

Double (and multi) click support

GPU-accelerated XNA-compatible 3D and immediate-mode 2D API

Low-latency sound effects and WAV support

Every time the camera is almost at the end of the boot process it try’s to read “something” and after that fails it reboots itself!! The problem is that this is exact the same problem I have with all firmware’s I tried.

Ich habe einen Dump des Teils "romfs.img" und es ist anders dann das Bild ich blitzte es, but is exactly the same as what is on the camera.

OK gut damit aus dem Weg, a little bit of explanation of how the tool works.

Step 1

Press the browse button to select a folder to dump the firmware to.

Step 2

Wählen Sie den Port wo Sie RS232 Gerät ist, und wählen Sie"Open Port”

Step 3

Step 6

The tool will start dumping the selected images and if all goes well you will end up with a working copy of your firmware.

I wanted to share the tool for those who might find it useful.

After installing the cams and playing a bit with them the natural urge to flash the latest firmware to a device came over me.

Ich habe viele Geräte vor zugemauert., and usually there is a backdoor in.

I opened up the cam and soldered the wires on the serial connection pads.

I always ended up with my cam in an endless loop of reboots.

B. eingeben: D -b 0x7F0E0000 Es zeigt die erste 256 bytes from that address like below.

Ich habe hier eine gute Kamera im Moment so ich kann nicht überprüfen, ob dies mein Problem lösen wird, but at least I can dump the firmware of any Foscam Clone Camera.

I have created a one click firmware updater for the Netduino! The tool was initially build by forum user Randoom for the FEZ Devices. I took that code as my base and created the Netduino One Click installer. It detects a Netduino automatically and reads the currently installed firmware version, after that the tool will check on a remote site if there is a newer version of the firmware available (currently it is my blog). If it detects the version on the Netduino is older you can click the update firmware button to update your Netduino!

A few things to keep in mind:
1. It is alpha software and not for people who do not know how to recover if something goes wrong.
2. You need an internet connection if you would like to use the auto update feature.
3. It currently only supports the Netduino, so not the Plus or Mini, those will be supported in later versions.

If you would like to test please remember you have to have version 4.1.0.3 on your Netduino, so you can test the automatic update feature. I have 4.1.0.4 on the update server.

I hope you like the tool! Please let me know what you think!

You can download the Updater here: One Click Updater for Netduino

A few days later the rest of the parts for my DIY FEZ Domino arrived, after a half an hour of soldering this was the end result!

The most exiting part was plugging it into my PC, all I could do was pray I wouldn’t see any white or black smoke

The first problem I faced was that the 5V voltage regulator seemd to get power from USB what is not supposed to happen, it got VERY hot VERY fast, so I decided to desolder that part. After I removed it my PC started to beep the sound of a USB device that got plugged in. It only showed a serial port (COM4) that was not what I expected, I thought I would see a USB device. I checked the USBizi144 documentation and saw that the chips come without firmware, so only a bootloader is installed.

After firing up TeraTerm and selecting the COM port and after downloading the latest firmware I got my board up and running! I started Visual studio, created the “Hello World” on hardware boards (blinking led) and ran the code, everything worked!

Next I went to my favorite PCB house Seeed Studio and ordered 10 PCB’s. I placed my order at the 14th of September, the boards where ready and shipped the 19th. Today the 30th September I received my boards!

Now the waiting is for my USBizi LQFP144 chips! I hope they will ship together with my FEZ Panda boards on October 1st

The biggest challenge with building these boards will be soldering the really fine pitch 144 pins chips.

I will post follow ups as soon as I have the parts!
